"Kemp Uranium Mines, Limited, was incorporated in 1955 and owns what was formerly known as the Kemp property comprising nine claims, lots 2-5, concession XIV, and the south half of lot 1, concession XIV, Cardiff township, Haliburton county.
In 1954 radioactive showings in marble or skarn were exposed by a bulldozed stripping and a number of trenches. In 1954-55 further exploration consisted of deepening some of the trenches, additional trenching, and seven diamond-drill holes totaling 2,882 feet." (Radioactive Mineral Occurrences in the Bancroft Area by J. Satterly, Sixty-Fifth Annual Report of the Ontario Department of Mines, Volume LXV, Part 6, 1956, published 1957.)
From the book "Minerals of the Grenville Province" about thorite fromthis locality:
"..the brown-to-reddish-brown, etched, doubly terminated crystals from this locality are in fact pseudomorphs (R. Mielke personal communication, 2016). When broken open it is seen that the interiors of these crystals are polyphasic, consisting of of a granular, brick-red quartz + thorite (or thorogummite) + an iron oxide fraction, in which are suspended dark-brown-to-black, prismatic crystals of uranium-rich thorite."
"Kemp Uranium Mines, Limited, was the name of the company that owned and explored the property, and the property name was Kemp. Based on previous discussions on this forum the property should probably not be called a mine since no shaft or adit was developed, only bulldozed strippings and trenches. The property could be more properly called a prospect." (John Duck)
In pyroxene skarn.
