A Pb-Zn-Ag-Cu-Au occurrence/mine located SE of Lubec, along the shore of the bay. First mine in coastal Maine, first operated ca. 1832.

To get to the site from Route 1 in Whiting, take 189 E 5.5 miles, then N on Crows Neck Road approximately 0.5 miles, then E on Lead Mine Road approximately 1.5 miles (accurate to 100 meters). Scattered dumps along the beach off Lead Mine Road. The local tidal change between high and low tide can be about 6.7 meters (22 feet). Be aware of when the next high tide is and be aware of where any places might be covered by water, blocking your escape. The location of seaweed growing on the beach rocks shows where the high tide will cover that part of the beach. Be safe.

A polymetallic vein sulfide deposit. Ore deposition was controlled by the geologic structure. The veins were emplaced in fractures resulting from tension. The main fault system is 600-800 feet wide. If the fault zone persists along strike, there is the possibility of Developing Large Tonnages of Sulfide-Bearing Rock. A low-temperature deposit. Local rocks include mainly volcanic terrane, middle Paleozoic.

Workings include underground openings comprised of short tunnels, deep cuts, and underhand stopes. A shaft is 180 feet deep with drifts that run out 170 feet under the bay. A 50 foot tunnel was driven near the shore. A mill (now in ruins) was operated in the late 1860s and early 1870s.
