Leaching-accumulation type copper-iron deposit, hosted in Quaternary gravels that are deposited in erosion caves of Carboniferous limestones.
Liufengshan copper deposit is a mid-to-high temperature skarn deposit where mineralization is strictly strata-bound. Originally opened as an open pit in 1970 and expanded with shafts in the 1980s, the mine is currently owned by the township and operates via three interconnected vertical shafts, while the original pit remains abandoned. The site is easily accessible, situated 20 km from Chizhou City via a well-maintained road. Although it is an active industrial site, Liufengshan gained international fame in the mineral market around 2002 for its exceptional collectible specimens of azurite and malachite.
