Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite

A railroad cut through the Bergen Hill (Palisades diabase) at Jersey City, NJ (1906-1910). The cut has been used as a state highway right-of-way (state route 139) for decades and provides access to Jersey City and the Holland tunnel. Coordinates are for the middle of the cut.

Manchester (1919) noted that only the western quarter of the cut contained epigenetic minerals. This may reflect that 95% of the heat from a cooling, intrusive sheet, dipping at a shallow angle, is dispersed upwards. The western (upper) portion of the sill would experience the overwhelming bulk of convective fluid circulation.
