Apache No. 2 claim
A gold prospect with underground workings located in sec. 12, T5N, R21W, near the base of eastward-trending ridge, about 4 miles (6.44 km) S of Moon Mountain, on Native American reservation land.
Mineralization is a faulted quartz vein of variable width, which trends about N70ºE, and is traceable to the west for 1,000 feet (ca. 305 m), mainly by abundant float. At the shaft, the vein is 10 feet (ca. 3 m) wide.
The country rock is a dark schistose porphyry containing prominent feldspars inclosed by biotite, chlorite, and epidote. The vein matter is a massive white quartz slightly stained with iron and copper salts, with sparsely disseminated pyrite.
Workings include an old incline, probably several hundred feet deep (already inaccessible by 1914). No production record.
