Braun-Eisenstein type iron ores at the contact of mica schist layers and crystalline limestones, contacts with extrusive rocks of the augite porphyry (or melaphyre) type. The extraction of these ores was the basis for the development of iron mining since ancient times - see the description of Rimetea.

Wilhelm Braumuller. p.1-636.p.510 - Auf diesem letzteren Wege, nordwestlich vom Orte folgen zunächst herumliegende Stücke von Hornstein und Augitporphyr, welche das Durchstreichen einer, wenn auch nicht mächtigen Zone dieser Gesteine verrathen, dann aber allsogleich Glimmerschiefer, aus welchem mächtige Massen von krystallinischem Kalkstein emporragen. An den Contactstellen zwischen den zwei letzgenannten Gesteinsarten brechen die Erze, Brauneisensteine, die in zahlreichen kleinen Gruben gewonnen und auf Saumthieren in das Thal hinabgeschafft werden.
