Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

A former surface and underground W-Feldspar-Mo-Cu-Au claim/mine located in upper San Domingo Wash, 13 miles East of Morristown. Discovered 1939-1940 by M. Pachen, J. Kaler and D.G. McMillian. Also located in the NE¼ sec. 2.

Mineralization is lenticular ore bodies hosted in schist that strikes East to SE and dips about 45ºN. and is invaded on the West by medium-grained, light gray granite and highly feldspathic pegmatite dikes. Irregular bodies of disseminated scheelite with powellite occur in bands of striped brownish garnet-epidote schist within black schist. At least 6 such bands, each 3 or more feet wide by some 500 feet long, crop out in an area 300 feet wide.

Ore control was garnet-epidote schist bands in black schist parallel to the schistosity. Ore concentration was cross fractures N12W, 80SE that caused local enrichment within mineralized zones. Alteration was silicification.

Workings include a few shallow surface pits.
