The currently explored resources of the Shuanglong deposit include 0.69 Mt of iron ore averaging at 32.2 % iron, whilst it contains 1.11 Mt of copper ore averaging at 0.13 % copper metal. The Shuanglong Fe-Cu deposit is situated within the Upper Carboniferous Tugutubulak Formation, characterized by basalt, andesitic volcaniclastic rocks, minor rhyolitic ignimbrite, and carbonate interlayers. The Tugutubulak Formation in the Shuanglong area was intruded by the Late Carboniferous Bailingshan intrusive complex, which includes diorite, monzogranite, granodiorite, and minor granite and granite porphyry. Two primary ore zones are discerned within the Shuanglong district: the Fe-Cu orebody (No. 3), located in the volcaniclastic rocks and diorite intrusions, and the No. 6 orebody within the volcaniclastic rocks. The primary orebody (No. 3) extends approximately 120 m in length with a width ranging from 9 to 27 m.
Typically, the Fe–Cu orebody comprises massive magnetite and hematite-chalcopyrite veins. In contrast, the surrounding wall rock exhibits alterations comprising K-feldspar, epidote, actinolite, calcite, and chlorite. Mineralization at Shuanglong is identified to have occurred in three distinct hydrothermal alteration and mineralization stages: Stage I – Skarn alteration; Stage II – Fe mineralization stage primarily characterized by platy mushketovite and massive magnetite, commonly associated with actinolite and pyrite; Stage III – Cu mineralization stage featuring epidote-sulfides, calcite-hematite-sulfides, and quartz–hematite–chalcopyrite assemblages, lacking clear cross-cutting relationships but considered younger than Stages I and II.
