Köppen climate type:
This area belongs to the Baode–Xingxian bauxite belt in Shanxi. The study area’s Phanerozoic stratigraphy, from the oldest to youngest, includes Ordovician carbonates and shales, lower Carboniferous Benxi Formation featuring bauxite and claystone, upper Carboniferous Taiyuan Formation comprising sandstones, shales, and coal, Permian sandstones, shales, carbonates, and coal, Triassic sandstones and mudstones, Neogene laterite and conglomerates, and Quaternary loess accumulations, notably with no development of magmatic rocks. Although the Lower Benxi Formation (C2b1) in the Xingxian area commonly ranges from 4 to 16 m in thickness, the aluminous-bearing strata in the study area was less than 3 m in thickness.
