The exposed strata in the peripheral area of the study site include the Longbeixi Formation, Lishan Formation, Changlin Formation, Nanyuan Formation, Huangkeng Formation, and Zhaixia Formation. A dinosaur fossil of a new species of ornithopteran dinosaur in the Late Jurassic Nanyuan Formation in the peripheral area of Fozi Mountain, which was subsequently named “Strange Fujian Dragon”. It is the latest known ornithopteran dinosaur in the world in the late Jurassic and occupies the southernmost geographical position.
Volcanism exhibits remarkable influence on the periphery of the study area, where extensive volcanic rocks are exposed, comprising lava, pyroclastic lava, pyroclastic rocks, pyroclastic sedimentary rocks, and subvolcanic rocks. Records related to metal mineral resources in the peripheral areas of the study zone encompass iron, aluminum, zinc, copper, gold, and silver. These resources are generally distributed in and around the boundary between the Zhenghe–Dapu deep fault zone and the northwestern margin of the Dongkeng volcanic basin. They can be categorized into two major metallogenic types. The first type comprises skarn-type lead–zinc (iron)-rich deposits hosted in the ancient strata of the Middle–Late Proterozoic metamorphic rocks, such as the small and medium-sized deposits of Zhenghe Tieshan, Xiashan, and Hutun. The second type includes volcanic–subvolcanic hydrothermal Au–Ag (Cu-Pb-Zn) polymetallic deposits hosted in Mesozoic volcanic strata, such as small and medium-sized deposits in Zhenghe Dongji, Xingxi, and Wangcuo. A new deposit type (Xiaoshao porphyry gold deposit).
