A proven gold reserve of 6.4 t with an average gold grade of 7.9 g/t. The exposed strata in the Xiaoshan gold deposit primarily include Archean Taihua Group, Mesoproterozoic Xiong’er Group, and Quaternary sediments. The Xiong’er Group comprises andesite, andesite porphyrite, and quartzite, distributed to the north of the deposit. Structurally, the detachment fault is developed between the Xiong'er Group and Taihua Group. Trending northeast with a dip angle of approximately 30°. Mineralized quartz veins are structurally controlled by the NE- and NW-trending subsidiary faults. The Early Cretaceous intermediate acidic rocks are distributed in the Taihua Group and Xiong’er Group.
Eleven ore bodies have been delineated in the Xiaoshan gold deposit, and mostly present at 660 to 1157 m above the sea level. It generally strikes 20°–45°, dips 50°–80° SE. The largest gold vein, IX, is about 1.1 km along the strike, with average thickness of 0.68 m. The No. IX orebody has ore grades varying from 0.38 to 50.27 g/t. The No. II orebody has a thickness range of 0.1–0.54 m (mean 0.32 m) and a gold grade range of 0.51–31.23 g/t. Other import orebodies include No. III, IV, V S1, S2 and S3, which are 80 to 172 m long, 0.1 to 1.8 m thick.
On the basis of the crosscutting relationships, morphology, texture, and paragenesis, four mineralization stages were recognized. There are, from early to late: (I) milky quartz–pyrite stage; (II) smoky quartz–pyrite stage; (III) quartz–polymetallic sulfides stage; and (IV) quartz–carbonate stage.
