The Wangzhuang gold deposit is located in the middle of the late Paleozoic Zhen’an-Xunyang sedimentary basin. The gold deposits surrounding the Nanyangshan fault primarily occur within Devonian formations, including the Xinghongpu Formation (D3x), Gudaoling Formation (D2–3g), Dafenggou Formation (D2d), and Xichahe Formation (D2x). In contrast, the Wangzhuang gold deposit was found within the Upper Devonian–Lower Carboniferous Tieshan Formation (D3C1t), which used to be considered a barren formation in this region. The predominant lithologies hosting mineralization include calcareous (carbonaceous) phyllite and quartz sandstone, and the wall rock is mainly carbonate rock, forming an interstratified rock of carbonate rock and fine clastic rock, which plays a crucial role as a physicochemical interface in ore formation.
Current assessments indicate a potential Au resource of 2.57 tons within the Wangzhuang gold deposit, highlighting promising prospects. The alteration and mineralization processes of the Wangzhuang deposit are divided into three stages: (Ⅰ) arsenopyrite–quartz vein stage, (Ⅱ) quartz veins with arsenian pyrite stage, and (Ⅲ) quartz-carbonate stage. The initial two stages, reflecting the principal phase of ore formation, are closely interconnected, while Stage III encompasses a subsequent phase of mineralization characterized by relatively weaker alteration and mineralization. The Wangzhuang gold deposit comprises three distinct orebodies: K1, located centrally; M1, situated in a concealed area; and K2, a newly identified stratiform orebody discovered beneath Nanyang Mountain in the eastern section of the mining area. Additionally, several mineralization alteration belts, such as S1 and S2, have been delineated on the southern, northern, and western sides of the main orebody, K1.
