The travertine formations of Tamiahua Lagoon could indirectly be associated with an anthropogenic event that occurred in July 1908, during the drilling of an oil well called San Diego de la Mar Number 3, which was conducted by the "Pennsylvania Oil Company of Mexico". When the drilling reached a depth of approximately 556 m, it suddenly went out of control, causing the release of the oil and setting fire to the areas where the hydrocarbon spilled out. Furthermore, due to the reservoir's internal pressure, a second outlet was generated, causing the collapse of the surface and the formation of a crater denominated "Pozo de dos Bocas", situated at 2.65 km of the studied area.
It can be described as a small composite autochthonous flat mound with subcircular morphology and an irregular sub-vertical cone
