Garnet was mined here from around 1880 to 1910. A large part of the material was exported to Bohemia, where it was cut and sold as Bohemian Garnet. The Bohemian garnet is typically a pyrope though, whereas the Carinthian garnet is typically an almandine. Several dumps and collapsed adits still remain in the Lucknergraben, a small rift on the southwest [?] slope of the Millstätter Alpe, along the Kaning creek ('Kaningbach').
