Historic gold mine.

Located near the head of Waiotahi Stream.

Epithermal veins in pyrophyllite-diaspore-dickite-kaolinite. Gold is associated with enargite, a copper arsenic sulphosalt.Free gold is occasionally seen. Within the hard white quartz is dark finely granular bands of sulphides. Vein fillings consist of high Au-Ag valued clays, the clay seam follows the Hanging Wall 150 feet or more. The reef is lenticular with a high percentage of sulphides and enargite as isolated grains, and 'beautiful' crystalline aggregates. Gold is frequently associated with the enargite in the clay seam, but no gold is associated with enargite in the quartz vein. Pyrite frequently recements crushed and disjointed veinstone. Barite coats quartz and sulphides in cavities.

The Magnet Gold Mining Company was found extending the low level tunnel in 1907, now a total of 1220 feet. Crushings were sent to the Waiotahi battery. To raise more capital the company was reconstructed in 1910 to the New Magnet Gold Mining Company. In 1912, operations ceased due to the low grades of ore not meeting expenses.
