Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Iron Duke Mine: New Cadia mine; Iron Duke Copper Mine
A former underground mine comprising open cuts, benches, adits, and underground workings.
The mine produced over 100,000 tons of secondary copper ore to 1917. The mine also produced a total of 1.5 million tones of iron ore for the war effort.
"In the late 1960's Pacific Copper Ltd amalgamated all the leases and after a major phase of drilling work outlined large tonnage, low grade copper-gold resources at Big and Little Cadia.
In 1980 BMI Mining Ltd, in joint venture with Pacific Copper, repeated this feasibility study work and proposed a 3 million tonne per annum operation on geological resources of 29.9 million tonnes at 0.51% Cu and 0.44 g/t Au at Big Cadia".
None of these two studies resulted in the mine being resurrected.
