The Dragon Gold Mine is the most southerly deposit in the north-south trending line of gold mines. It is 30 kilometres south of Bronzewing. It consists of two open pits, the northern one named Dragon, partially filled by waste from the later open pit called Venus immediately to the south.

The Dragon pit was developed in the 1990's, producing 42 000 tonnes of ore at 3.6 g/t gold.

The earliest information found was the late 1940's. R.W. (William or Dick) Wright, R.W. Sanderson and Jim Metzke started early 1946. They obtained several good crushings through the Darlot state battery to 1951.

The Dragon deposit is hosted by rocks slightly higher in the stratigraphy than the deposits to the north. The Footwall unit is tholeiitic basalt. Breccia and carbonate alteration is common in the southern part of the deposit. The northern part is a basalt unit, mylonitised, then annealed to form crudely laminated coarse grained rock with abundant diopside.

Overlying the Footwall unit is a coarse grained ultramafic schist, with bands of graphitic schist, and talc, chlorite, carbonate, anthophyllite and phlogopite, up to 25 metres thick which is the main gold host. The Hanging Wall is basalt and dolerite.

Gold is found half in the ultramafic unit and half in the graphitic zones, and is associated with thin quartz veins, sub-parallel to the foliation. It also contains 5% disseminated pyrite and arsenopyrite. Prominent north striking white quartz veins, gold barren, cut the mineralised zone.
