The New England Goldfield is approximately 80 kilometres east south-east of Wiluna. To reach travel east of Wiluna 60 kilometres along Wongawol Road, then turn south onto Barwidgee Road. Gold mine locations are widely scattered several kilometres either side of the road from this turn off, then south for 50 kilometres to near where the Wonganoo Road joins it.
With one minor exception, the field has seen no modern mining, and was mainly active in the 1920's and 1930's. The field was known since at least 1909, when the earliest report was found, but little information was uncovered in general until the 1920's.
Twenty three named locations were found, with virtually no information on most of them. Many isolated shafts trending north-south either side of the road, probably exist, lost to time.
A couple of the larger mines had small batteries, and one at the southern end of the field at Corboy's Find, crushed for the local miners. This was always largely a prospecting field, with little information finding its way into the public records.
It is a remote area, with no water, people, and the nearest civilisation back at Wiluna. Visitors should exercise caution and be well prepared.
