The Two Mile Hill Gold Mine is 20 kilometres south-west of Sandstone, and 2 kilometres east of both the Sandstone-Paynes Find Road, and Bulchina Mine.
There are two small abandoned open pits, the northern one Two Mile Hill and a few hundred metres to the south the small Shillington pit.
The deposit is hosted in the Two Mile Hill Tonalite, a late phase vertical intrusive which has cut the Sandstone Greenstone Belt of basalt and banded iron formation (BIF).
The BIF is quartz veined, and extensively replaced by pyrite. The tonalite has been pervasively altered to sericite and silicates, containing variable amounts of disseminated pyrite. The tonalite is 220 metres in length and averages 70 metres thick.
The gold occurs within the tonalite associated with pyrite, with sheeted sets of quartz veins dipping 15 degrees south-east. The quartz veins range from 1 mm to 100 mm thick, and a few up to 700 mm thick.
Visible gold is often associated with galena, molybdenite, chalcopyrite, and other (un-named) sulphides in quartz veins.
