Zovon, Vò, Colli Euganei, Provincia di Padova, Veneto, Italia
Trachyte quarries located to the southeast of Zovon, NE of Vò. There are two groups of quarries: the "yellow" trachyte quarries (e.g. Belvedere, Donà, and Toniolo quarries), located between Zovon and Casa Gallo-Casa Rovarola, and the southeasternmost "white" or "grey" trachyte quarries (Berton and Poletto quarries), located at Le Sbarre locality.
The most typical mineral in trachyte cavities is represented by white, thin, hexagonal crystals up to 10-12 mm across originally classified as tridymite, according to the observations of vom Rath (1868 and 1874). This mineral is actually a quartz paramorph after tridymite (for which the informal name "pseudotrydimite" has been sometimes used), as already proved by Mallard (1890), who continued the studies previosuly performed on the Euganean crystals by Schuster (1878) and von Lasaulx (1878).
NB: The occurrence of tridymite, often reported on the lables from these quarries, has been deleted from the mineral list because it is just a quartz paramorph after tridymite (M.E. Ciriotti, 2008). As a result, the photos originally uploaded as tridimyte have been updated accordingly.
