This was a fairly large zinc-lead mine that opened in 1954. It produced ore from veins and disseminated material in the carbonate rocks of the Ordovician Galena and Decorah Formations. A deposit lay under the village of Tennyson (SW 1/4 NE 1/4 Sec 36 T3N R3W). A study done long after the mine was abandoned documented sphalerite and wurtzite are in biofilm deposits on decayed wood found in mine waters draining from the mine.
