Copper prospect held in 1970's by Ecstall Mining Ltd.
Ayres (1971) describes this occurrence as consisting of black veins containing variable amounts of brochantite, hematite and quartz. The widest veins are relatively straight, up to 2.5 cm wide, and are generally oriented sub-parallel to a north-trending foliation (Ayres 1972). Additional thin, randomly-oriented veinlets are reported to occur within the host rocks in the areas between the larger veins. Trenching carried out on this occurrence by Ecstall Mining was reported to have exposed the digenite zone over a strike length of approximately 25 m and a width of 3 m (Ayres 1972). Trenching immediately to the west of the digenite zone was reported by Ayres (1972) to exposed a 4.5 m wide chalcopyrite-bearing zone. The chalcopyrite is reported to be associated with irregular quartz and calcite veinlets that are both concordant and discordant with foliation. The largest vein strikes east-west, is approximately 25 cm wide and contains up to 50% chalcopyrite. The host rock is a felsic to intermediate metavolcanic (Ayres 1971). The metavolcanics are reported to be altered in the vicinity of the digenite-mineralized veins, with alteration consisting of thin, closely-spaced chlorite-actinolite veins and blebs. Ayres (1971) reported that this alteration zone is cross-cut by a second, later alteration zone, approximately 200 m north of the digenite occurrence. The cross-cutting alteration zone was interpreted to be associated with a major east-southeast-trending fault. Significant assays from this zone include 60.2% Cu and 1.21 oz/ton Ag from a sample collected from one of the 2.5 cm wide digenite veins (Ayres 1971) and 11.1% Cu, 0.17% Co and 0.12% Ni from a sample collected from the 25 cm wide chalocopyrite-bearing vein.
