Cava Canalgrande (Cava Canalgrande B; Cava Montecatini)
Canalgrande B or Quarry no. 95, once operated by the chemical and mining company Montecatini S.p.A. and presently operated by the coop Cooperativa Cavatori Canalgrande, is located in the Canal Grande depression to the south of the Strinato B (Lucchetti) and Carbonera B quarries.
This is the most important quarry regarding the collection of sulfide samples. However, in the last year only few specimens have been recovered and the findings usually took place in the old dumps.
In the 1980s-1990s it was possible to have marble blocks containing tens of vugs, lined with crystals of variuos species, e.g. pyrite, sphalerite, galena, jordanite, and wurtzite. In particular, a single block of marble yielded about 15 specimens of wurtzite.
Bornite is found as shapeless metallic masses.
Galena found as a mass with perfect cleavage associated with pyrite and sphalerite.
