Marvão is located in Alto Alentejo, in the district of Portalegre, and is situated at the top of the Serra do Sapoio, at an altitude of 860 meters. It is the seat of a municipality with an area of 154.90 km² and comprises four parishes (Beirã, Santa Maria de Marvão, Santo António das Areias, and São Salvador da Aramenha).
