The Treseburg Mine is located at the south of the village of Treseburg in the Luppodetal valley. It is not to be mistaken for the major mine of Treseburg "Braunschweigische Zeche", also known as "Arthur".
The appearance of this deposit is strange. The rocks (schist) are crossed by a network of thin veins of axinite/quartz/calcite. The sulfidic ores are mostly right on the schist - without salbands (vein border zones), not typical for classical hydrothermal veins. Nevertheless, the deposit spreads in shape of a line. However, not in Hercynic direction like mostly in this area but nearly Saxonic. Further abnormalities are:
* The main vein mineral is axinite (ahead of calcite and quartz) together with epidote (group).
* Lots of inclusions of chalcopyrite in sphalerite (macroscopically visible), thus gaining a aventurin-like look and sometimes not easily identified as such.
* On the other hand, the chalcopyrite contains star-like shaped inclusions of sphalerite that are only visible by using a ore microscope. These inclusions are an indicator of high temperatures during formation of these minerals (higher than usual for hydrothermal processes).
