This a classical blue quartz outcrop in conjunction with Olvera-Antequera ophite which were discovered at the end of the 80 by geological science students of Granada University. The named outcrop consists into large "olistholite" ophite block (Weathering grade III) up to 40 m2 included in gypsiferous, carbonates-clayey-sandstone sequence belonging to Triassic Keuper series where blue quartz crystals occur. Triassic Keuper represents olistostromic sequence with chaotic structure and exotic blocks of several rocks. Ophites are like non-in situ rock affected by late tension cracks.

Blue quartz fills joints in highly weathered pale green ophite, and fractured 2-5mm thick, coated by thick carbonates, reddish clay and aerinite. Blue quartz form platy and globular masses, very beautiful in colour, with minor tabular habit. This outcrop was called at the time of discovery "Las Chapitas" as remind the crystalline shape of blue quartz masses.
Blue quartz occurs in deep blue colour forming platy to crystalline aggregates up to 3 cm, on matrix or frequently loose in reddish carbonatic clay.
