Monte Leoni is a group of hills, located in the municipal territories of Grosseto, Campagnatico, and Roccastrada, which forms the southern part of the Monticciano-Roccastrada metamorphic massif. Its highest point (616 m asl) is the top of Monte Leoni, in the municipal territory of Campagnatico.

The most common paragenesis in low-grade Verrucano metasediments is chloritoid, pyrophyllite, and micas (muscovite and paragonite) (Franceschelli et al., 1986). Magnesiocarpholite as green, columnar or fibrous crystals, up to several centimetres in length, is found in syn-folial quartz-calcite veins widespread in Verrucano rocks, which experienced metamorphism during the Apennine orogeny (Giorgetti et al., 1998; Giorgetti et al., 2001). Late-stage sudoite and kaolinite have also been observed.
