A large Ni-Cu-Co deposit within the Råna synorogenic Caledonide intrusion in north Norway. The Bruvann deposit covers an area of about half a square km. Reserves estimated are 43 million metric tons with 0.33% sulfide nickel, 0.08% copper and approximately 0,015% cobalt (Boyd & Mathiesen 1979)
UPDATE 2023
Australian mining company Kingsrose Mining has announced plans to further investigate and possibly mine three separate ore bodies in close proximity to the Ballangen nickel mine. Further discoveries are not excluded, and a ultramific intrusion with a length of ca. 8 km will be investigated.
These exploration projects are characterized as massive nickel-copper-cobalt sulphide mineralisations.
The newspaper article as mentioned among the references below, says that this deposit has the potential to be among the top 10 largest deposits in its kind. However, the report from Kingsrose Mining does not present any numbers on the size of this deposit.
