Located WSW of Narvik.
Disseminated sulphide mineralization in peridotite with main sulphides being pentlandite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite. Nikkel & Olivin A/S, a Norwegian mining company started their exploitation in 1989. Now abandoned.

UPDATE 2023
Australian mining company Kingsrose Mining has announced plans to further investigate and possibly mine three separate ore bodies in close proximity to the Ballangen nickel mine. Further discoveries are not excluded, and a ultramific intrusion with a length of ca. 8 km will be investigated.

These exploration projects are characterized as massive nickel-copper-cobalt sulphide mineralisations.

The newspaper article as mentioned among the references below, says that this deposit has the potential to be among the top 10 largest deposits in its kind. However, the report from Kingsrose Mining does not present any numbers on the size of this deposit.
