A silver mine located near Silver Peak. Deposit placed at 5.9 million years (Tertiary-Miocene).
Structure: Silver Peak Caldera Ne-Trending Faults
Alteration: Oxidation Due To Supergene Alteration; Strong Propylitization; Local Argillization And Silicification
Tectonics: Silver Peak Caldera
Deposit: Veins are sheeted, tabular bodies; epithermal fissure vein which persists to a depth of at least 253 m. Where it is 12 m. Wide. Hanging wall is sheeted quartz-calcite with manganese oxides and clay pockets. The footwall side is mostly massive calcite partially replaced by quartz discoverer, olof olson completed most of the relatively shallow workings on the vein prior to 1940. In 1961 and 1962, callahan mining co., under lease and option, completed 5 diamond drill holes to test the vein structure at depth up to 1000 ft. Down. Under assignment of lease and option, mid continent uranium drove a 1030-ft. Crosscut tunnel to intersect vein at 350-500 ft. Below the outcrop. ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 2 unpub rept
Deposit type: Epithermal vein, Comstock
Development: Acquired in 1960's by sunshine mining co. (2/3 interest) and midcontinent uranium co. (1/3 interest). Construction of a 550 ton per day mill began in may, 1981. Opening of the mill is slated for march, 1982, expected to employ 60 persons at mine and mill. In 1963, mid-coinent uranium co. Acquired leases and options on the mohawk and sanger mines; and staked the cliff group of 28 claims covering the intervening ground between the 16 to 1 and mohawk property. The group of claims owned or controlled by mid-continent in 1964 formed a contiguous group of 67 claims from the 16 to 1 property to the mohawk and sanger properties.
