N'Bails mine. Calamine, lead, and antimony mine Vieille Montagne.
Around 1869, Mr Hachette, Secretary-General of Vieille Montagne, visited the Hammam area in Algeria in search of zinc ore supplies.
In 1872, the Société des Mines et Fonderies de Zinc de la Vieille-Montagne acquired the concession and founded the Hammam Agency. The N'Bails mine is part of this. The mine contains lead, zinc, and antimony ore.
The Nador N'Bails mine was already known at the time of the Romans.
The mine is located in the wilaya (province) of Guelma, Algeria.
Near the mine is a thermal spring and the village of Hammam-N'Bail, at the time of the Turks this was called Nador.

Vieille Montagne calcined the zinc ore on site. In 1919, VM had 7 shaft furnaces and 3 rotary Oxland furnaces at work, the last of which was started up during the war. The roasted calcine was then transported 15 kilometers by cart to the Guelma railway to Annaba port (which was called Bône at the time of colonisation). The ore was then shipped via Céte (Hérault) or Antwerp to Belgium to the Vieille-Montagne zinc smelter in Hollogne-aux-Pierres (Liège), for the production of zinc white (zinc oxide).
The Nador N'Bails mine is the type locality for nadorite, a rare lead and antimony oxychloride, and the only known occurrence in this sector for this mineral.
The mine later specialised in antimony. The exploitation was then done by the Compagnie des mines de La Lucette.
Although the mine initially produced zinc, the Nador N'Bails mine gradually became the main supplier of antimony in Algeria.

After 1962, it was the only antimony mine still in operation, thanks to the rail line connecting Guelma to the port of Annaba.
