The Xilaokou gold deposit is primarily hosted within the following rock types: Paleoproterozoic Jingshan Group marble and granulite, Paleoproterozoic Muniushan monzogranite, and a smaller proportion of Cretaceous sedimentary rocks and lamprophyre dikes. The ore bodies within the Xilaokou deposit are fracture-controlled, with no apparent selectivity towards the surrounding wall-rocks. A total of 173 gold ore bodies and 213 gold mineralization bodies have been delineated. The surface orebody exposure occurs in the Liaoshang and Qianchuiliu mining areas in the northern part of the deposit. This area represents the largest ore-bearing alteration zone discovered in recent years. The mining area spans approximately 4500 m in length, with a width ranging from 3 to 14 m. The Xilaokou gold deposit with ca. 50 t of gold reserve @ 2.7 g/t represents a novel type (carbonate-sulfide vein type) of gold mineralization within the Jiaodong gold province.
The metallogenic process of the Xilaokou gold deposit can be divided into four stages with coarse-grained pyrite-dolomite-gold marking the major gold mineralization stage.
