Purang ophiolite

Mafic-ultramafic massif, consisting mainly of mantle peridotites (harzburgite and minor lherzolite) and minor dyke-like dunite bodies, pyroxenite and gabbro.

Located in the western YZSZ, the Purang ophiolite trends NW-SE and is about 60 km east–west and 20 km north–south. It consists primarily of harzburgitic mantle peridotite intruded by mafic dikes, with minor dunite and lherzolite lenses. The Purang ophiolite contains localized small-scale (1–10 m long, 0.5–6 m wide) massive or disseminated chromitite mineralization. The Dongbo ophiolite, situated northwest of Purang, spans ∼ 450 km2.
