Stone quarry/garnet mine in Late Silurian Clough Quartzite and mica schist and Ordovician Middletown Formation meta-gabbroic amphibolite. The schist was mined for garnets for use as abrasives. More recently the quartzite has been quarried for architectural stone and the amphibolite for aggregate.
