Lone Star Mine

A copper mine located just south of the Canadian Border 8 miles west of Danville. It worked deseminations and veinlets of ore in serpentinized dacite of a dacite dike. Development includes 2,500' of drifts, croscuts, inclines, winzes and other workings on the Lone Star; 700' of workings on the Washington; and 3,590' of diamond drill holes. It produced 36000 tons of ore in 1897 and 1910-1917.
Geology: Eocene Felsic Rocks Intruded Permian-Triassic Metasedimentary and Metavolcanic Rocks of the Area (Parker and Calkins, 1964, Geol. Map). Chalcopyrite Is Present As Disseminations and In Veinlets Along Foliation In Schistose, Serpentinized Dacite In A Zone 50 Ft. Wide In the Hanging Wall of A Diabase Dike Dipping 30-50 Degrees To the East and Southeast. Company Records Indicated Nearly 250,000 Tons of Ore Containing 1.94% Cu, 0.047% Oz/Ton Au, 0.204% Oz/Ton Ag Remained In the Ground (Huntting, 1956, P. 54).
