The Murgul mine is a large mine in the east of Turkey in Artvin Province, 465 km east of the capital, Ankara. Murgul represents one of the largest copper reserve in Turkey, having estimated reserves of 40 million tonnes of ore grading 1.25% copper. The 40 million tonnes of ore contains 500,000 tonnes of copper metal.

The area, which was found suitable for exploitation by Maden Tetkik Arama (Mineral Research and Exploration) (MTA) in 1935, was delivered to Etibank in 1937. In 1951, Etibank started production. It was transferred to Karadeniz Bakır İşletmeleri AŞ in 1971. It was sold to Cengiz Holding during its privatization in 2006.

The ore extracted from the mining area is concentrated and delivered to Hopa as pulp via pipeline. Drying and filtering processes are carried out in the facilities here and shipped from Hopa Port. 350,000 metric tons of copper ore and 130,000 metric tons of concentrated copper are produced annually.

It was decided to close it in 2004 on the grounds that the economic copper reserves in Murgul were exhausted. The decision was later cancelled by the Özelleştirme Yüksek Kurulu (High Council of Privatization), and it was decided to sell it by asset sale method.
