Rocca Rossa (2397 m) is a summit between Monte Pian Real and Picchi del Pagliaio, along the ridge dividing Vallone di Ricciavrè to the south from Vallone del Sangonetto to the north.
The southern slope of Rocca Rossa is made of metagabbro; the northern slope of serpentinite, in which some rodingite bodies are embedded. Chlorite schists with pyroxene (diallage), hornblende, and large magnetite octahedra occur at the contact between serpentinite and metagabbro, along the ridge betweeen Monte Pian Real and Rocca Rossa (they are particularly well developed in the area of Colle del Vento del Forno). Serpentine schists and chlorite schist rich in octahedral magnetite occur along the contact between serpentinite and greenschist facies metabasites (prasinites) in the upper Vallone del Sangonetto; in particular, two rondigite lenses embedded in serpentine schist crop out near Lago Blu and to the west of it. Eclogites with garnet, omphacite more or less transformed into green hornblende, ilmenite, and rutile occurs between the two rodingite lenses, just to the north of the lake.
