Skarn-type iron deposit.

The Luoyang Fe skarn deposit hosts ore reserves of 14.4 Mt at an average grade of 42.44% total Fe, accompanied by economic Zn and minor Mo resources. Outcropped rocks at Luoyang include Carboniferous-Permian limestone, Permian sandstone and shale, and Jurassic tuff. The Luoyang Fe orebodies predominantly trend NW–SE, dip NE at 10–30°, and exhibit stratiform, lenticular, and pod-like morphologies. They are primarily hosted in the interlayer fracture zone between the Lower Carboniferous to Permian limestone, as well as along the contacts between granite porphyry and these carbonate rocks. A Si/Ca lithological interface controls the main orebodies, separating a footwall of Lower Carboniferous siliceous quartz sandstone and granite porphyry from a hanging wall of the aforementioned carbonate units. The Fe ores are mainly disseminated and massive, with subordinate banded varieties.
