Uranium mineralization at Yangjiaonao is of silicate-vein type. Pitchblende occurs as disseminations and veinlets within microcrystalline quartz veins and cataclastic granite, mainly in MCB granite. Alteration includes silicification, hematitization, pyritization, chloritization, and hydromica alteration, of which silicification and hematitization are most closely related to uranium precipitation. In situ U-Th-Pb chemical dating of pitchblende yields a weighted mean age of 141.6 ± 3.2 Ma, indicating that mineralization occurred during the Early Cretaceous. This timing is consistent with the Cretaceous extensional tectonic regime widely recognized across South China.
