A mine for vanadiferous magnetite (Fe,V)3O4, ilmenite and pyrite. Closed 1985. Owned by Rautaruukki Oy. Produced 330,000 tons of ore/year (1982-1984). - The deposit consisted of numerous nearly vertical ore lenses, till 200 m long and 3 till 50 m wide; in a belt, 2 km long. The pure ore contained 38 - 40 % magnetite, 27 - 31 % ilmenite and 1 - 2 % pyrite.

In a concentration plant near the mine magnetite, ilmenite and pyrite concentrates were produced. The magnetite concentrate was in a vanadium factory treated to Fe2O3, sent to the Rahe steel works, and vanadium-pentoxide, sold to the world market. The ilmenite concentrate was shiped to produce white colour. The pyrite resp. its sulphur content was used in the rubber production.

Reopening of the mine is planned. Production should start in 2019. See www.otanmaki.fi for details.
