Situated 140 km NW of Fianarantsoa in the central highland of Madagascar on the left side of the Matsiatra river, thus in the Amoron'i Mania region (close to the border with the Haute Matsiatra Region), about 5 km from its confluent with the Manantsahala river.
The pegmatite is famous for the largest beryl crystal found:
18 meters long, 3.5 meters diameter, estimated volume of 143 cubic meters and an estimated weight of 380,000 kilos.
Closed in 1963 after have producing about 2000 tons of beryl and 32 tons of columbite-tantalite.
This locality is also marked Malakialina A.4 to distinguish this locality from Malakialina F.3, a pegmatite found just south of this locality.
Coordinates based on map in Frere (1963, planche 57).
Note to minerallist: Behier (1960) also lists finds of "phosphuranylite-renardite" fra Malakialina A.4.

Geochronology
Mineralization age: Cambrian : 514 ± 5 MaImportant note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
