Host Rock: Iron Formation
An iron mine opened in 1951 by Inland Steel Co. and worked until 1953 when operations became hindered by caving. 44,492 tons of ore were shipped. Workings were developed to 600 feet depth. This mine worked the middle-Precambrian Amasa Iron-formation of the Baraga Group. The property description is NE-SW, NW-SE, and SE-NW Sec. 26 T43N-R32W, which is the 120 acres between N46º5'26", N46º5'52", W88º16'24", and W88º16'43", and between N46º5'26", N46º5'39", W88º16'5", and W88º16'24".
