A very old iron mine started about 1756 and closed before 1932. One of the Forest of Dean group of mines. Owned by the Forest of Dean Iron Ore co., Hudson Iron Co. & the Fort Montgomery Iron Corp., in that order. Total output is estimated at not less than 2,000,000 tons of ore. Workings were 3,300 feet deep along the pitch.

According to Pumpelly (1886) it is located "...about 7 miles northeast of Greenwood Furnace and 3 1/2 miles northwest of Fort Montgomery." This puts it near Mine Lake and Mine Road near Camp Buckner, West Point Military Academy.

Entrance to mine is within fenced area north of the easternmost point of Mine Lake. US Army Military Reservation, inaccessible to public.
