This description is for the conglomerate mining operations of the Delaware.

After the Delaware Mining Company reorganized as the Conglomerate Mining Company in 1881, it began working the conglomerate lode after promising signs of copper were noted during prior exploration. The new company spent 1.3 million dollars to improve the site and open the mine. Because the mine never operated at a profit, operations ceased in 1884 and was leased to tributors. By 1886, over four million dollars was spent on the mine between the mining company and tributors, but only returned a little over seven million pounds of copper. In 1888, the company was reorganized and named the Lac la Belle Mining Company, but no mining work was done.

Today, the mine is operated as a self-guided tourist mine. Patrons enter the mine through the shallow dipping No. 2 shaft. The mine piles outside are collectable after you pay for the mine tour. Shaft Nos. 3-5 are located to the east of the No. 2, but are off-limits to collecting. Some copper, silver, and malachite can be found on these piles.
