Prospect dating from the First World War, when sulphur and sulphuric acid was still manufactured from pyrite. Prior to the early 1920's several pyrite mines operated near Mineral, about 30 miles southeast of this prospect The orebodies near Mineral were volcanogenic massive sulphide ore deposits and contained significant copper, lead, zinc and silver. However, none of these mines survived the transition to newer, cheaper means of sulphur manufacture in the early 1920's.
This prospect was a quartz vein with scattered masses of pyrite, mostly oxidized in the near surface environment. Compared to the ore deposits near Mineral it was very small, irregular and low grade. It was prospected by 2 shallow “shafts”, one of which was still visible in 1960.
