The Mn-rich rocks are made up of highly oxidized quartzitic schists, quartzites and Mn-rich pyroxenoid and carbonate rocks. The ferromanganoan metasediments in central Andros form part of a volcano-sedimentary sequence that experienced low grade, high pressure metamorphism (P > 1,1 GPa; T = 360°-420°C) followed along the uplift path by a greenschist facies overprint.

| ⓘ Braunite Formula: Mn2+Mn3+6(SiO4)O8 |
| ⓘ Manganiandrosite-(La) (TL) Formula: (Mn2+La)(Mn3+AlMn2+)O[Si2O7][SiO4](OH) Type Locality: Description: occurs as randomly interspersed brown-red grains in a fine-grained matrix of spessartine, rhodonite, rhodocrosite and braunite in a highly oxidized quartzitic mica-schist. The manganiandrosite-(La) described in the type description was subhedral to euhedral grains commonly with a maximum diameter of 0.02-0.06 mm (20-60 µm), and rarely up to 0.2 mm.
