Name:
For the Italian mineralogist, Giuseppe Schiavinato (Padua 10 December 1915 - Milano 25 June 1996), who supported the advancement of mineralogy in Italy.
The niobium analogue of béhierite with which it forms a series.
Second mineral with essential Nb and B after nioboholtite.
Occurs intimately associated with Nb-rich béhierite, as portions in bipyramidal crystals.

Béhierite-schiavinatoite crystals may have a black encrusting of rynersonite. The crystals may be partially altered into microlite group or rynersonite (or vigezzite) (Pezzotta 2007).

Possibly crystallochemically related to xenotime-(Y) (Ondrejka et al., 2022).
