Synthetic material (90 kB, 400oC) was first reported by Bendeliani et al. (1972).
Later found in ferruginous black shale, more narrowly its soft, poorly laminated and very fine-grained variety (Ostwald, 1985). Associates include quartz and illite. The unnamed FeOOH occupies at least of 40% of the shale volume.
