Named after Nikolai Mikhailovich Strakhov (Николай Михайлович Страхов) (2 (15) April 1900 Bolkhov, Bolkhov district, Orel province, Russian Empire - 13 July 1978, Moscow, USSR), petrologist, geologist and geochemist. He is considered one of the founders of modern lithology.
