North Roskear mine, started in 1816 and closed in 1874, was one of the most productive copper mines in the area. From 1862, it included the northern part of Wheal Crofty which adjoined it on the east. In 1864 and 1865, it was worked together with the South Roskear group and other adjoining mines under the name Roskear Mines. Around 1898, when the property was acquired by the West Dolcoath Exploration Syndicate, it became part of Dolcoath Mine, but no further development was undertaken after the existence of a rich tin ground believed to exist below the copper ore zone could not be proven. It finally was included with South Crofty Mine when they took over most of the Dolcoath Mine sett in 1935.
The mine worked the North Roskear main lode and three intersecting lodes two of which are known as Blewet's and Caunter lodes while the third is unnamed. Coordinates given are those of Old Doctor's shaft. Both Dines and Hamilton Jenkin point out that the mine is erroneously indicated too far north on the 1:10,000 Ordnance Survey map (Sheet 63NW).
